Psalm 32

In this Psalm David begins speaking about the forgiveness of his sins. He says, “Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.” Psalm 32:1-2. Then the Lord responds by saying, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.” Psalm 32:9-10.

David confesses his sin to the Lord and is forgiven. Then the Lord tells David that he will teach and instruct him in the way he should go. David must be disciplined by the Lord to learn His ways. The Lord said he would bring David into his counsel and watch over him. He also warns David not to be like the horse or the mule that must be controlled by a bit and bridle or they will not come to you. David must yield to learn from the Lord. Then the Lord said that His unfailing love will surround the man who trusts in Him.

The Lord’s wisdom and his love are together. His wisdom is his love. It is through learning His wisdom that you know how to love. They are the covering over us. We too learn wisdom through being instructed and taught by the Father. We must be disciplined to learn his ways. He will bring us into His counsel to learn from Him. We must be willing to come to him and be careful not to be stubborn. We must not insist on our own ways but yield to his discipline. As we learn from him, we will mature and learn to walk in his ways. His wisdom and his love will cover and protect us. The enemy will not be able to touch us. We will walk above the ways, the authorities, and the powers of this world. We will be nurtured and grow as his sons. This is the covering of His wings, the refuge, and the Rock.

Brad, what a beautiful Psalm yoh have highlighted here: two thoughts came to mind: the first was the picture the Lord once gave me of a person lying on the altar at peace and at rest, not bound: the obedience we are encouraged to pursue is not that which is a sacrificial response because of fear of punitive consequences neither is obedience desired by the Father if it has to be enforced through control, rather willing obedience rooted in complete trust in the His unfailing love characterizes those who He will instruct and teach about the way to go and counsel while His loving eye is on them - what a precious picture to have His counsel and His loving eye on you;

the second thought I had was about the heart with no deceit: this too has been an experience the Lord brought me through: the key to this heart is the acknowledgement on our part of our iniquity with no attempt to cover up - this is so hard to do - by nature the heart of man is deceitful above all things (David said) so the heart free of deceit is an amazing work the Father accomplishes when we come to the place where we are ready to be truthful : David alludes to the consequences of keeping silent : the pressure is steady upon us from the hand of God: I felt in my spirit for a while that we have to survive the process of circumcision through circumstances (often the circumstances are through our own making and the result of disobedience) but literally the heat is on (summer) and when our own strength fails, and the pressure gets too much for our bones, we kind of "give up" and 'fess up : our repentance brings forgiveness of the guilt we have borne about our deception: this process places us on the highway of holiness or on the path to the hiding place where the flood canot reach us and there is protection from trouble; we are surrounded here by the song of the redeemed (those who have been delivered)- here we are ready to be instructed: what a loving Father to take us through this journey to His righteousness in His kingdom. Love always, Prema
