Post Dream: drums and cables (7-7-2008)
on: January 19, 2012, 18:23

Dream from Monday night the 7th of July, 2008.

I was in a small room or enclosure, not unlike a cubicle. It had high enough walls that I could not see out from where I was sitting. In the room was a complete drum set, but not room for much else. I felt that I needed to be playing a beat on the drums for someone, though I did not know for whom. I began to play, using the majority of the drums. As I played, Tim Jr. and someone else who I can't place entered the room. They needed to do something rather important and it consisted of them crouching down and working near the floor. As they began to work, they slowly began to get in my way, creeping over so that I could not play first one drum, then two, until they were right in front of me blocking my access to all the drums except the snare drum which was far to the right. I felt rather aggravated, because I felt that I had a responsibility to continue to play the beat and play it constantly.

Finally I took the snare with me, still playing it, and walked out of the room. Outside the room was very surreal. I do not know if I was outside or in, but there seemed to be large neighborhood blocks before me. I began to walk down sidewalks, playing the drum. There were people sitting within these empty blocks of land, sitting in rows of chairs. I could not really tell what they were doing or not doing, but I felt that I was playing the drums for them. I walked around the periphery of the groups of people, playing the same beat. But they did not react or do anything. I did this for some time, eventually arriving back at the small room where the drum set was and where Tim and the other man were. As I walked in, I saw that Tim had connected a yellow cable or cord along the floor (reminded me of ethernet or something.) I do not know where it started or what it was connected to, but myself and the other man asked Tim why he had a cord and we did not. He said in a rather matter of fact tone that there was nothing stopping us from plugging in our own cables as well. We realized the foolishness of our question at once, knowing that the answer was quite obvious. We just had to find one of a different color or of our own. Soon enough I found a green cable and the other man found either a red or blue cable and we plugged them in. Then the dream was over.

Some brief thoughts:
I had this dream over 2 and a half years ago. It has come up at various points in my walk, but recently it has come to mind quite a bit. I feel that it is important and relevant to me, and maybe others as well.

In the simplest terms, the dream speaks a lot about my individual focus and perceived responsibility in how and what to do for the Lord and others. There is much desire from the soulish man to receive recognition or to perform some special task as seen by men. However, the reality is that the natural man has many desires and ideas on how to fulfill a perceived Godly role that are in fact lifeless. These desires are sometimes mistaken as from the Lord when they are in fact from self or the religious spirit. We need to be especially careful and self-examining and ask the Lord to expose and root out these areas in our lives. There is however a special and specific role assigned to each (as noted by the differently colored cables.) This portion that is assigned to us will not allow for any other focus or ideas of men (as shown by Tim and the other man getting in my way as I played the drums.) It is a singular task and takes priority even to the dismissal of all other things.

Now, more than ever, do we each one need to find that unique and personal connection to the Lord and his will in this very important season. This will will simultaneously draw us each to the Father and also closer to each other as our place in the body becomes more known and secure. This is perhaps an oversimplification of the time we are in, but is the way that seems the easiest to convey in words.

I think there is a lot of other imagery here that I have not mentioned. So if anyone else has more understanding or ideas please feel free to share them.

I am greatly encouraged by your insight on the dream. The sprit of self-examination, beyond the revelation itself, is precious.

May the Lord continue to reveal Himself and His ways to us in such a living way!

You are deeply appreciated! My brother...:)
